  1. How is personal health information collected, used and disclosed in connection with the Citizen Health Portal?

Your personal health information is confidential and eHealth Saskatchewan (eHealth) takes great care to protect it. eHealth has policies, procedures and guidelines in place designed to protect your personal health information.

Personal health information is collected, used and disclosed in accordance with applicable legislation, including The Health Information Protection Act (HIPA).

The sources of personal health information for the Citizen Health Information Portal include the following:

Please note that the above information is not a complete list of your lab test results, immunizations, prescriptions or clinical visits. Some information is not yet available electronically to eHealth and in some cases there are delays before the information is available electronically to eHealth.

The personal health information collected is only used by eHealth for the following purposes:


For the purposes of the Citizen Health Information Portal Pilot Project, you may be invited to provide feedback regarding your experience with the Citizen Health Information Portal. eHealth may request personal or personal health information from you in connection with the feedback you provide and your use of the Citizen Health Information Portal, and will only use such information for the purposes of reviewing and improving the Citizen Health Information Portal services. eHealth will only collect and use your personal or personal health information for this purpose with your knowledge and consent.

eHealth does not use or disclose your personal health information for any other purposes, unless it has your consent or is otherwise authorized by law.

  1. Who is accountable for the personal health information in the Citizen Health Information Portal?

eHealth is responsible and accountable for the personal health information in the Citizen Health Information Portal, as well as for compliance with privacy legislation and eHealth's privacy policies and procedures. eHealth's Chief Privacy Officer is responsible for overseeing eHealth's privacy compliance program.

eHealth is not the trustee for all of the data in the Citizen Health Information Portal. However, eHealth will be accountable to address all access/amendment requests and any privacy or security concerns as per this Privacy Policy.

  1. Does eHealth collect, use or disclose any other information?

You should also be aware that anonymous technical information may be collected by eHealth through your use of the Citizen Health Information Portal or as a result of a visit to the eHealth website. For example, this information may include your IP address, browser type, operating system, access times and information about the way you use the Citizen Health Information Portal. eHealth uses this anonymous technical information to track usage patterns for purposes such as improving the operation and content of the Citizen Health Information Portal and the eHealth website, and compiling aggregate and statistical information. eHealth reserves the right to disclose such aggregate information to third parties.

As part of the collection of technical information, eHealth may use “cookies” on the Citizen Health Information Portal and its website. “Cookies” are small text files placed on your computer that can collect and store a variety of information, including your visitor preferences and activities on the Citizen Health Information Portal and eHealth website. Permanent cookies are stored indefinitely on a user's hard drive unless manually deleted, while temporary cookies are automatically deleted from the user's browser upon logging out of a website. Web browsers typically allow users to disable permanent and/or temporary cookies.

  1. What safeguards are in place to protect my personal health information?

Privacy safeguards outlined in HIPA apply to the personal health information in Citizen Health Information Portal. Personal health information in the Citizen Health Information Portal is kept in strict confidence and is used or disclosed only as authorized or required by law.

In addition, eHealth has strict security safeguards in place, including policies, practices, and computer systems that are designed to protect information from unauthorized use, error, or loss. The Citizen Health Information Portal also allows you to audit who has accessed and viewed your personal health information within the Citizen Health Information Portal, including when your personal health information was accessed and what records were viewed.

  1. Can I access and amend my personal health information?

eHealth will provide you with access to your personal health information in accordance with HIPA and eHealth's applicable policies and procedures. eHealth reserves the right to require that any request for access to personal health information be made in writing. Generally, there is no cost for a request for access to your personal health information. However, eHealth reserves the right to charge such costs on a case-by-case basis in accordance with applicable laws. You will be notified in advance if such charges apply. Please note that your information may also be accessed by you through the Citizen Health Information Portal.

You may also request correction to errors in your information in the Citizen Health Information Portal. The corrections are handled in accordance with HIPA and the policies and procedures established by eHealth. Please note that the Citizen Health Information Portal also contains functionality that allows you to correct the personal health information which was inputted by you.

  1. What is eHealth's relationship with TELUS with respect to the Citizen Health Information Portal?

eHealth has engaged TELUS Health Solution Inc. (TELUS) to provide information technology and management services through the TELUS Health Space® platform. The contract between TELUS and eHealth clearly states that eHealth controls and is accountable for the personal health information stored in eHealth Citizen Health Portal. Further, the contract includes reasonable and appropriate provisions to protect the security and confidentiality of the personal health information and to ensure the information is stored in Canada and is subject to Canadian privacy laws.

In addition, prior to using the Citizen Health Information Portal, you will be required to accept the TELUS health space® Account Service Agreement and the TELUS health space® Account Privacy Statement, which creates a legal agreement between you and TELUS. This direct relationship may grant TELUS additional rights with respect to the use, disclosure and retention of your information. You are advised to read the TELUS health space® Account Service Agreement and Account Privacy Statement carefully. If you do not agree to the TELUS health space® Account Service Agreement or the Account Privacy Statement, do not use the Citizen Health Information Portal.

  1. How can I contact eHealth if I have questions or concerns about the privacy or security of my personal health information?

eHealth's Chief Privacy Officer is responsible to receive and address privacy-related complaints and concerns associated with the Citizen Health Information Portal. If you have a privacy-related complaint or concern regarding the Citizen Health Information Portal, we encourage you to contact the eHealth Chief Privacy Officer at the following:
